World's second-largest solar roof on a football stadium: Europa-Park Stadium

The Europa-Park Stadium in Freiburg, home of SC Freiburg, is setting new standards not only in sports but also in environmental protection. Badenova Erneuerbare, based in Freiburg, has installed and operates a photovoltaic system on the stadium roof. With 6,200 modules, it is currently considered the world's second-largest solar roof on a soccer stadium.

The system on the stadium roof has a peak output of 2,387 kilowatt peak (kWp). Commissioned in July 2022, the system generates approximately 2.3 million kWh of electricity per year. This amount covers the stadium's currently forecast annual electricity requirements completely CO2-free and corresponds to the annual requirements of around 1,600 households.

meteocontrol supplied the core technology for control and monitoring for this impressive project. Our Power Control solution based on blue'Log XC ensures that the park operates optimally and in compliance with the grid. The entire system is monitored in VCOM.
