SANA – 60 MWp Utility Scale PV System
SANA is the largest utility-scale solar power plant in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates and a major step forward in bringing renewable energy to traditional oil and gas infrastructure. The 60 MWp ground-mounted PV system is located at the Sajaa Gas Complex, operated by Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC). It’s one of the first large-scale oil and gas facilities in the world to be powered by on-site solar energy. The system supplies clean energy directly to SNOC’s operations and feeds excess power into the grid during the day. The plant will offset 66,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually – equivalent to the yearly electricity consumption of 13,780 homes.
To ensure reliable operation and high performance for the solar PV plant, Emerge worked alongside meteocontrol on a customized monitoring and control solution. The contribution supported the integration of key systems – from the local SCADA with tracker and cleaning robot technology, to blue’Log controllers, sensors, and VCOM for centralized analytics – all aligned with SEWA’s grid requirements.
The complexity of large-scale PV projects demands more than just reliable hardware. Through our collaboration, we successfully integrated solutions that ensure smooth commissioning and sustained performance for the SANA project. meteocontrol’s customized reporting system, along with its robust and flexible alarm and fault-detection capabilities, provides significant advantages for the prospective O&M throughout the project’s 25-year operation.
