Our solution for hybrid power plants supports flexibility in the control of active and reactive power.

With this feature, meters for…

…can be selected independently of one another, including individual meters used in characteristic curves.

This is necessary when the reference point for reactive power is located at the grid connection point, while the reactive power controller is located at the generation site.

This function fully complies with the requirements of VDE-AR-N 4110 for hybrid generation plants operated in the German medium-voltage grid.

Battery hierarchy and advanced device monitoring

Battery monitoring takes us to a whole new level of detail.

Thanks to these advanced features, we can…

identify the battery’s substructures to monitor detailed metrics for each one (harmonized hierarchy)
measure additional metrics based on intervals as short as one minute (min/max/current/average)

P-value calculation

Grid operators, plant operators, energy traders, and balancing service providers want to know the potential available power of a PV system in real time. blue’Log provides a calculated data point for this purpose.

We are introducing an update to the calculation of this data point that allows for the inclusion of multiple irradiance sensors and takes into account the temperature dependence of the modules. The result is greater accuracy of this data point in representing the potentially available power.

Extended power plant controller

Feed-in and import limitation	Grid operators define an agreed feed‑in and import power (PAV) that must not be exceeded at the grid connection point. However, for yield optimization or load coverage, installed capacity is often higher. The bluelog Neo dynamically limits feed‑in and import power in real time to keep export within the agreed limit. In parallel, grid operators can also curtail the power at the inverter level. In some grid codes, an additional independent monitoring and protection device is still required, which supervises the feed‑in power and disconnects the plant if the limit is exceeded.
Flexible curtailment options for grid operator	Grid requirements are becoming increasingly complex due to the growing share of renewables and the integration of battery storage. Different markets, in particular, rely on different strategies to prevent grid congestion and curtail systems. The bluelog Neo provides full flexibility to meet these challenges, enabling grid operators to dynamically control feed‑in and import power at the grid connection point or to curtail power directly at the generation level, e.g. by curtailing the PV inverters or the discharge power of batteries.
Extended fail-safe operation	During communications faults, the blueLog Neo must ensure stable and compliant operation. For the configuration of this fail-safe operation mode, multiple options have been added: The setpoint failure (communication to the grid operator) and the meter failure (communication to the measuring element) can now be individually configured For hybrid systems, this includes the configuration of dedicated fallback values for PV and battery systems during meter failure. In setpoint failure, the controller can switch to autonomous characteristic curves like Q(U) and Q(P)
Distinct ramp rate limiting for energy trader and grid operators	During curtailment, power changes must follow defined ramp rates to ensure grid stability. Energy traders and grid operators typically impose different requirements on these ramp rates. With bluelog neo, ramp rates can now be configured individually for grid operator and energy trader commands to meet these varying demands.
Frequency control for Co-located (PV+BESS)	In hybrid projects, battery energy storage systems and PV plants are typically subject to different frequency control requirements. Within the blueLog Neo P(f) curves can be configured individually for each system, allowing precise compliance with technology‑specific grid code demands. To meet the particularly stringent dynamic requirements of battery systems, a fast feed‑forward controller has been integrated into the control loop, enabling rapid and stable frequency response. In addition, the FSM mode has been enhanced with an insensitivity band, improving control stability by preventing unnecessary regulation in response to small frequency deviations.
Advanced reactive power control	The bluelog Neo features an advanced reactive power controller, including: Configurable first‑order (PT1) filtering for simplified tuning and reliable compliance with grid code requirements Fast feed‑forward control to meet even the most stringent dynamic performance requirements Flexible reactive power dispatch in hybrid systems, enabling coordinated control of PV and battery assets

Upcoming feature

Hot Redundancy PPC

The PPC Hot Redundancy feature introduces an active–standby architecture that ensures continuous PPC operation.

Two blue'Log PPC devices are running in parallel, with one acting as the active controller and the other as a synchronized standby.

In case of connection loss of the active instance, control is automatically and seamlessly transferred to the standby PPC without manual intervention.

High Availability: Eliminates single points of failure at PPC level.
Operational Continuity: Automatic failover ensures uninterrupted control during faults or maintenance.
Grid Compliance: Reduces risk of non-compliance due to PPC unavailability.
Reduced Operational Effort: No manual switchover required in failure scenarios

Curtailment events with exact timestamp

The Curtailment events with exact timestamp feature introduce a structured handling of curtailment events (commands) within the blue'Log PPC.

Each curtailment is explicitly detected, recorded, and managed as an event, ensuring transparent execution and traceability in VCOM monitoring as base for yield loss calculation

Direct grid operator communication

With bluelog Neo we will enable the direct communication with grid operators over the communication protocol IEC 60870-5-101 (serial) and 60870-5-104 (ethernet) without using an external PLC hardware.

Key features are:

Use predefined data point lists (we will start with bayernwerk and extend this on the way for more grid operators)
Data point scaling (convert kW → MW or else, depending on grid operator)
Added flexibility (being able to calculate values which are not directly available in bluelog, but required for the grid operator)
Test-mode (enable to simulate grid operator commands or simulate plant data)
Load / export of custom defined setup (data points list and configuration per EPC to save time)
Supporting generic IEC features, such as:

Our new central platform for managing all user data and security features

mc Cloud by meteocontrol is a cloud-based portal for user and identity management that allows you to easily and securely access all your meteocontrol cloud solutions with a single login. It serves as a central platform for managing users, user roles, access rights, and two-factor authentication (2FA).

BESS Revenue Assessments

The BESS Revenue Assessment evaluates the project‑specific revenue potential of a battery energy storage system based on a techno‑economic simulation. The assessment considers the key technical parameters of the storage system and, where applicable, co‑located assets such as PV, wind or on‑site consumption. BESS projects can be analysed as stand‑alone systems or in co‑location at a shared grid connection point.

The analysis focuses on different market participation and monetisation strategies, assessed individually or combined through revenue stacking. These include spot markets (day‑ahead and intraday), ancillary services (e.g. FCR, aFRR), self‑consumption optimisation, direct marketing schemes and contractual models such as PPAs or tolling agreements. Revenue calculations are based either on historical price data (backtesting) or on market price forecasts (forecasting).

The result is a transparent economic evaluation of the BESS project, including key financial indicators such as cashflows, payback period and internal rate of return (IRR), documented in a concise report.

BESS Technical Due Diligence

The BESS Technical Due Diligence provides an independent and comprehensive technical assessment of a battery energy storage project in the planning, construction or operational phase. The evaluation covers the overall system concept, technical design, component selection and project schedule, for both stand‑alone and co‑located BESS projects.

The assessment includes a review of key components such as battery systems, inverters, transformers and electrical infrastructure, as well as site suitability and grid connection conditions. Available project documentation (e.g. permits, grid agreements, EPC and O&M contracts, technical studies) is reviewed from a technical risk perspective.

The outcome is a structured due diligence report identifying technical risks, constraints and mitigation measures, including a clear red‑flag list to support investment, acquisition and financing decisions.

BESS Technical Inspection

The BESS Technical Inspection assesses the physical condition, installation quality and safety of an installed battery energy storage system. It comprises an on‑site visual inspection of the main system components, including battery units, power conversion systems, cabling, transformers, grid connection equipment and monitoring systems.

The inspection also includes a review of commissioning and test documentation, such as insulation and grounding measurements, capacity tests and battery management system settings. The overall system safety and compliance with basic technical requirements are evaluated.

Results are documented in a concise inspection report including identified deficiencies, risk assessment and practical recommendations for corrective actions.

BESS Noise Assessment

The Noise Assessment evaluates the expected noise emissions of a BESS project and their compliance with applicable regulatory limits. It identifies relevant noise sources (e.g. inverters, transformers, cooling systems) and assesses sensitive receptors such as residential areas.

Based on a simplified acoustic propagation model, predicted sound levels are calculated and compared against statutory day‑ and night‑time limits (e.g. in accordance with TA Lärm).

The assessment is summarised in a report outlining compliance status, required minimum distances and, where necessary, recommendations for noise mitigation measures.
