With Mauricio López as General Manager Iberoamerica, a new office in Santiago de Chile and a technical hub in Colombia, meteocontrol is strengthening local support for solar, storage and hybrid projects across Latin America, Spain and Portugal.
Augsburg / Santiago de Chile / Madrid, 11.09.2026 – Renewable energy projects across Latin America, Spain and Portugal are entering a more demanding phase. Project portfolios are growing, battery storage is becoming part of more system designs, and requirements for plant control, SCADA and grid integration are becoming more specific to each market.
meteocontrol is responding to this development by expanding its Iberoamerica organization. The regional setup brings together the company’s activities in Latin America, Spain and Portugal under the leadership of Mauricio López, while strengthening its local presence through a new office in Santiago de Chile and a technical hub in Colombia.
López has been appointed General Manager Iberoamerica and will lead the company’s further regional development. He has been with meteocontrol since 2018 and most recently served as Head of Global Sales. With nearly two decades of experience in the renewable energy sector, he brings extensive international market experience to the role.
For customers, the expanded structure is designed to create shorter communication paths, stronger local project support and easier access to technical expertise across the region. meteocontrol already supports more than 3 GWp of monitored assets across Latin America, Spain and Portugal and has more than 2 GWp in the regional project pipeline. In Latin America alone, the company supports around 1,000 monitored PV plants.

Technical requirements, regulatory frameworks and customer needs differ significantly from country to country,” says Mauricio López. “With the new organization, we can combine a clear regional framework with teams that stay close to local project realities. This becomes especially important as projects grow in scale and bring together solar, storage, plant control and grid integration.”
Regional structure for local project requirements
The Iberoamerica organization gives meteocontrol a common regional framework for Latin America, Spain and Portugal. The Madrid office remains the local anchor for Spain and Portugal and supports coordination with teams and customers across Latin America.
The structure is relevant for developers, EPCs, IPPs, investors and service providers that are active across several countries. It gives them a clearer regional point of contact while keeping project responsibility close to the markets where requirements, regulations and operating conditions differ.
New office in Santiago de Chile
The new Santiago office gives meteocontrol’s Chilean team a permanent base for customer meetings, project coordination and day-to-day collaboration with partners. The company has been active in Chile since 2017 and works in one of Latin America’s most established renewable energy markets.
The office builds on meteocontrol’s existing activities in the country and gives the team a stronger local presence as Chile continues to play an important role in the region’s solar, storage and grid integration landscape.
Technical hub responds to growing project demand in Colombia
In Colombia, meteocontrol is expanding its technical capabilities in response to growing project demand. The new technical hub is a dedicated unit based in Colombia and currently consists of 10 experts.
The team supports customers in Colombia and provides additional technical capacity for projects across Latin America. Its work focuses on engineering, implementation and support for plant control, SCADA and grid integration in increasingly complex renewable energy projects.
With this expanded regional setup, meteocontrol is creating a stronger basis for supporting customers from early project coordination to technical implementation on site. The development reflects the company’s long-term commitment to renewable energy markets across Iberoamerica and the practical requirements of solar, storage and hybrid projects in the region.
